Magical & mysterious?

A trip to Liverpool to take in some Beatles locations

A long walk around the city to locations I had earmarked.

Then I drove to visit Strawberry Field. My satnav tried to take me down a road that didn't exist and I found myself driving past a small crowd outside a house. I immediately recognised as John Lennon's childhood home. So I stopped there and then drove on taking a left to the direction I assumed was for Strawberry Field but arrived at St Peters Church instead - where Paul McCartney met John Lennon and effectively started The Beatles story. So I stopped there! Then I got to Strawberry Field... Lennon used to climb over the wall to play with the orphaned children. Although the original gothic house is gone, it is now a tourist attraction and is fantastic. There is an atmosphere that can't be described. I bought 5 Strawberry Field logo guitar plectrums for friends. When I got home one was missing from the bag. The white one. It then appeared in my jacket pocket...

Photos in order:

The Cavern Club stage recreated

Matthew Street with lady who literally fell out of a bar during my long exposure shot (she was fine, although maybe not the next day)

Matthew Street again

Leather Lane (not Beatles related as such but a night-time photo opportunity)

Liver Building (Liverpool iconic building)

Ferry across the Mersey...

Beatles Statues.

Blue Angel where The Beatles auditioned drummer Pete Best and successfully auditioned for their first tour. Cilla Black was signed by Brian Epstien after a performance here.

Ye Cracke - the pub that John Lennon used during his student days and a sticker outside...

'The Phil' another pub used by Lennon.

Mendips - the childhood home of John Lennon.

St Peter's Church Hall Woolton where on 5th July 1957 John met Paul before playing together the next day.

Grave stone bearing the names of Mckenzie and an Elenour Rigby. All coincidences...

Beyond the gravestones is a hedge, behind the hedge is the area where the Quarrymen Skiffle Group played with Paul for the first time. Pointed out by a strange cloud. It is now a school playing field. Maybe one day someone will realise the value of securing this as a place of significant important.

Strawberry Field gates. The original gates were stolen and then returned, now residing safely in the gardens.

Plaques bearing Beatles lyrics

Strawberry Field garden.

20 Forthlin Road - Paul McCartney's childhood home.
